Building Workplaces That Work

Looking for those who go the “Extra Mile”.

Without regard for their personal safety, last Wednesday evening a young Minnesota couple rushed to the scene of the I-35 bridge collapse in Minneapolis, rendered medical attention to those injured by the accident, and assisted with their evacuation. Nate Lund is a 4th year dental school student, and his wife Christine a nurse. For their selfless acts, ABC News selected them their “persons of the week.”

Based on their behavior, Nate and Christine appear to be what we referred to in Contented Cows MOOve Faster as “extra milers.” Extra milers are people who willingly go above and beyond the call of duty. Without regard for whose task it is, they readily pitch in to, as Larry the Cable Guy puts it, “git-r-done.” They are a joy to work around, and a real asset to your team. Because of their infectious spirit, they are a menace to the competition.

It is our hope to periodically use this blog to profile extra milers like the Lunds, people who are embracing life and “going for it”… making a difference. In a world that has grown way too cranky and uptight, they represent what’s right with America, and are a breath of fresh air. Way to go Christine. Way to go Nate. Bravo!
